With four offices in the region, Birketts has good connections with leading trade organisations and figures in the energy industry locally, nationally and internationally. The firm also has strong relationships with other organisations including UKTI, banks, accountants and planners. Clients range from companies involved in the offshore energy industry, oil majors, engineering companies, landowners, developers, shipping, haulage and warehousing companies - all with an interest in the energy industry.
Extremely technical and legally complex issues require a well coordinated multi-disciplinary practice approach with lawyers working together as a team with the client and technical advisers. We regularly assist clients with a variety of issues facing the energy industry, in particular looking at renewables but also more conventional energy supply chain issues. This includes advising on wind and solar farm option agreements, power purchase agreements, outsourcing and supply agreements, construction and engineering contracts, planning and environmental issues arising from on shore wind farms and solar panels. We have experience in technology transfer agreements, protecting engineering developments and intellectual property rights, overseas employment contracts, international joint ventures, raising finance and facilitating deals, settling disputes both national and international through mediation and arbitration, and shipping and haulage issues, including charter party disputes and Operator Licence issues.
Clients benefit from the international services that Birketts has to offer. Andrew Wood has recently been co-opted on to the General Council of the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce in a move to help strengthen the UK ties with the Netherlands and our International Shipping team has worked extensively with major gas and oil companies.
Birketts was involved with the Anglo Dutch Wind Energy Conference in Cambridge in 2011 and our team have supported further initiatives involving trade missions to the UK and the Netherlands with EEEgr and the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce www.nbcc.co.uk and IRO www.iro-noc.nl.
